Book Review

Leo Tolstoy's classic novel of love, betrayal, and death tells the story of an unhappily married Anna Karenina and her love affair with the dashing military man Vronsky. The story starts off with Anna mediating between her brother and his wife after his affair with their children's governess, during which she fell in love with Vronsky. Throughout the rest of the story, you learn of Anna's old life with her husband, and her new life with her new lover.
This is a very interesting and compelling story. Tolstoy's use of description and detail is enthralling and entertaining. He mixes humor into his very serious message of life, death, and forgiveness, and make it impossible to put down. Although the book looks intimidating, with it almost 900 pages, it is surprisingly easy to read with the help of the Russian glossary.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys stories of tragic love. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It is one that I would happily read again. I give it 3 and a half out of 4 smiley faces.

  1. Nice book review! Maybe I will read it now. I always thought it looked rather daunting.
